Baaad Soccer Girl

My brother and sister shared the video of soccer girl, Elizabeth Lambert with me tonight. My jaw is still on the floor.

It's been ten(ish) years since I played in high-school. I didn't play in college. I needed a break from all the woman/woman aggression and competition. I've coached and for the last few years I've played indoor and I play for fun.

Last night I was attacked by a college-level player and I'm nursing a bruise on my shin that's so bad I'm limping like a wimp (oh, how I strive to be macho!) Thus, my aversion to this video and Elizabeth's arrogant attempts to justify her behavior and make excuses. Playing physically is acceptable if it is done so legally. My "attack" last night, was a legal tackle and I'm okay with it.

As a coach and a player, sportsmanship and integrity are as important as playing soccer for the right reasons.

Here is the article from the NYT regarding the situation.

I think that New Mexico is sending the wrong message if they let her back on the team next year.

Now, I have to go ice my leg.

Soccer Season

After Labor Day, soccer season starts. I have coached the same team for five years, but this year, I've taken a step back since it's tough to hold a small child and yell to large children at the same time. Plus, the practices are at 4 pm and I don't leave work until 6 pm.

The Storm had their first game on Saturday. They are now in seventh grade!! Most of them are suddenly taller than me!

My college roomie, Monica was here last weekend, so she came to the game too. Monica was here interviewing for a new job; which she was offered! Yeah Moni!!!

Dahlia wore her personalized soccer warm ups, which a team mom made for her when they found out I was pregnant. It's so cute. They put a little soccer ball patch on the jacket and spelled out Storm on the tush.

The girls won 4-1!
