Sea Star Restaurant Review

Have you ever felt jealous of a piece of pie?

Lately I've been obsessed with the smell of coconut. Maybe it's because I want to be roasting in the summer sun; sweating sunscreen and saltwater.

I'll start at the beginning.

I took my man out to dinner at the relatively unknown Sea Star restaurant in Bellevue, WA. We've never been there because we never heard about it, or saw it. It's located in a business area, in a sparkling new building. It was packed with rich Bellevue socialites who liked to be overheard discussing Kobe's wife's wedding ring.

We haven't been fans of oysters in the past, but holy God. We ordered two each and immediately ordered two more. They were just impeccable. We also had frou-frou devilled eggs, but with Ahi on top. I've also been Ahi-obsessed lately; don't know why.

John Howie and Some Good Grub

While perusing the menu I realized that I had eaten fresh crab (that I caught myself) before, but I'd never had king crab legs. And so, for about $75 I was plated with three HUGE crab legs and a rich butter dipping sauce. Again, the king crab was rich and amazing. I was only able to eat one and a half. I decided that they should bring you only what you can eat, because otherwise, you're just wasting all that food! I don't think that crab should have died in vain. I would have found it's death much more enjoyable if someone had eaten the other leg and a half.

Now I'm talkin' crazy.

B chose the coconut cream pie for desert and we shared. When the waitress put the pie down, I just inhaled the coconut. It smelled like a dream. I was jealous of a pie! Was I drunk from my banana- pineapple beverage? Nope. Not even buzzed, and yet I was in love with a pie!

Here's a little about John Howie, the chef. "Chef Howie was the opening chef and driving force behind the popular Magnolia restaurant. Opened in June 1992, Palisade became a landmark restaurant. During his tenure at Palisade he was invited three times to prepare meals at the James Beard House in New York City."

The bottom line? I'd save Sea Star for a happy-hour kind of place seeing as how it's so expensive. But B put it on "the list" which means we're going back!

Still more Under-utilized Terms

While working diligently today, I happened across an official glossary of interesting terms relating to office terminology.

It’s a goldmine of history and sardonic explanations. I’ve pilfered only general terms. They’re the funniest anyway. Please feel free to apply them at your place of business. Embrace them in your own work terminology.

Nerd Alert!

Here we go:

Ambimousetrous: Able to use the mouse well with either hand.

Badge Dance: The strange movements of an employee trying to open a door using the entry card in their pocket.

Chair Trap: When you trap yourself in your office chair by accidentally hitting the pneumatic seat adjustment causing it to drop suddenly, therefore locking your legs under your chair.

Grandmanager: My manager's manager.

Great-Grandmanager: My grandmanager's manager.

Great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmanager: BillG

Keyboard Vittles: The food particles that are in the crevasses of your keyboard. A little snack to save for later.

OOF: Often thought to stand for “Out of Office,” leading many to believe it really should be OOO. Actually stands for "Out of Facility". Most frequently used as part of the phrases “OOF mail” or “OOF notice,” meaning an automatic e-mail response to correspondents that the receiver will be out of the office for a designated period of time.

PEBCAK error: Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard.

Smart Guy: The ultimate compliment. "He doesn't shower often, but he's a real smart guy...OK, let's hire him."

Three-Finger Salute: Process of simultaneously striking Ctrl, Alt, Delete in order to restart your computer after it freezes up.

YAA: Yet Another Acronym

Blue Bug

We got Muppet fixed and now the breeder a.k.a. Cruella DeVille can’t harvest my pet for puppies.
Today I saw a guy picking his nose at his desk.

Last weekend we entertained the idea of getting a car for me. I’ve been driving our 1973 BMW. It is a tank of a car; very German. B put a racing suspension in it so it’s FUN to take corners, and it’s a stick so it drives like a racer.

I test drove a VW Bug. It was pretty cool but the idea of having a car payment isn’t.

I have no summer vacation plans and it makes me sad.

I will now enjoy a 236 ML of reduced fat chocolate milk. I’ve already had hot chocolate today, so maybe I’m freaking out.

Birthday Picnic

I'm sitting in my office, alone enjoying a birthday picnic.

I'm lunching on leftovers from the 4th of July on red, white and blue paper plates, with a blue plastic fork and a napkin with stars on it.

I just finished a macaroni salad and now I'm grubbing on some amazing cheeses. I don't know what they are... but there are three kinds and one of them is spicy and so good! (Thanks mom!)

I've also got some damn good cherries; Rainiers? They're reddish and yellow. They're perfectly ripe and cold cause they've been in the fridge.

Rainier Cherries

Plus candied pecans I intended to add to a salad last weekend, but didn't.

The cheeses are salty and sour and then the cherries are sweet and cold and the pecans are crunchy and sugary... happy berfday to me.

And lastly, a piece of birthday cake made by Lauren! Dude #2~ thanks again for this chocolate cake. It's thick and gooey and so good! I need to grab some milk.

I love food.

Ready for the 4th

My hydrangeas are blooming and the weeds have been whacked.

I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be for the Fourth of July.

We get a lot of traffic past our house on the 4th because there are celebrations all over Kirkland; parades, festivals, fireworks... they practically shut down the city. I've been trying to increase the curb appeal on our house for the last few weeks, or months I guess, but the weeds keeps popping up.

Anyway, it should be all set now.

Have a safe 4th of July.
