Gung-Ho for Christmas

Guess who is working from home in her pajamas today. Me! Ha!

I stepped out an hour ago to purchase a fine, eggnog latte and develop some film (work related- for the record.) On my way to the Walgreens photo counter I was surprised and happy to see that all the Christmas decorations are out.

In the past I’ve been a holiday purist. No Thanksgiving before Halloween and certainly no Christmas before Thanksgiving. This year retailers skipped Thanksgiving altogether stocking their Christmas decorations right next to the Halloween stuff in mid October! There should be a law against this.

Now that Halloween is over, I’m perfectly comfortable with going directly to Christmas for the following reasons: Thanksgiving is a day; a meal, and Christmas is a whole month of decorations and anticipation.

Christmas morning is a feeling, a smell, lots of past and future memories. Christmas morning is cinnamon rolls, open stockings and wrapped sweaters.

This year, my sis is coming home from Texas (three syllables “Tay-ax-us”) and my bro is coming back from NY, so all the more reason for me to be gung-ho for Santa’s big day.
